Flowers for College Terrace homes, offices and students
College Terrace is a neighborhood of small homes, cottages and apartments on short blocks. Many houses have back units rented to Stanford students and staff. Include the unit, the recipient’s phone and whether the flowers go to the front house or a back cottage.
The neighborhood’s cross streets are named after colleges, from Amherst and Bowdoin to Wellesley and Yale, and College Avenue runs through the middle. Double-check the street name, since several sound alike.
Stanford Research Park, along Page Mill Road and California Avenue, is just to the south. Its offices route flowers through a lobby or reception desk, so include the company, building, the recipient’s full name and a phone number.
Businesses on El Camino Real and California Avenue are a short walk away. For a business delivery, enter the business name with the street address and the hours someone will be there.
The nearest hospitals are Stanford Hospital at 500 Pasteur Drive and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at 725 Welch Road, both beside Stanford Shopping Center. Include the patient’s full name and room number if you know it. Our hospital and care facility guide lists the details most hospitals ask for.
For sympathy flowers to a home, give the family name, a phone number and any timing preferences. For a service, include the venue, the deceased’s full name, the service time and an onsite contact. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.

A town planned for Stanford’s first students
In 1887 Alexander Gordon laid out the streets and parks here, expecting the new Stanford University to bring residents. He first called it Palo Alto, then renamed it College Terrace at Leland Stanford’s request.
College Terrace became part of the town of Mayfield in 1891, and Mayfield was annexed by Palo Alto in 1925.
The College Terrace branch library was built in 1936 as a WPA project in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. Four small parks from the original plan are still part of the neighborhood.
Gordon's college streets
Alexander Gordon bought the land here in 1887 from Peter Spacher and Frederick Weisshaar, then divided it into lots and named every street and park himself. He chose East Coast colleges for the cross streets: Amherst, Bowdoin, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Oberlin, Princeton, Wellesley, Williams and Yale. The four parks in his plan were first called Berkeley, Hollywood, Eton and Hampton. In 1968 they were renamed Donaldina M. Cameron Park, Mayfield Park, William C. Werry Park and Frederick W. Weisshaar Park.
Donaldina Cameron and other neighbors
Donaldina Cameron, who spent decades rescuing Chinese girls and women from forced labor in San Francisco's Chinatown, was a long-time resident of College Terrace and died in 1968, the same year one of the parks took her name. The Cameron House on Sacramento Street in San Francisco, which still serves Asian families today, is also named for her. Architect Birge Clark, who designed many of Palo Alto's best-known Spanish-style buildings, theologian Robert McAfee Brown and singer Joan Baez are also among the neighborhood's past residents. Some of the older homes were built for early Stanford professors.
The research park next door
Stanford Research Park, just south of the neighborhood, began in 1951 as a joint project of the university and the city, with 209 acres set aside at first, and it opened in 1953 as the world's first university research park. By 2018 about 150 companies filled 140 buildings there and employed some 23,000 people. Varian Associates was its first tenant, and Hewlett-Packard had its world headquarters there by 1956. Today the park covers about 700 acres, and as of December 2025 Tesla was its largest tenant, alongside companies such as HP, Broadcom, SAP and Rivian. For an office in the park, include the company, the building number and the recipient's full name and phone number, since many buildings share a single street address.
Planning a College Terrace delivery
Blocks in College Terrace are short. A house number on a back cottage is not always visible from the street, so tell us which door to use or give us a phone number. The traffic circle at Yale Street and College Avenue is a good landmark if a home is nearby. For a student renting a back unit, include the student's full name and phone number so the flowers do not end up at the main house.
Deliveries run Monday through Saturday. For a birthday or anniversary that falls on a Sunday, choose Saturday. Your card message can be written in any language you like.
