The gateway to the Napa Valley

American Canyon was once known as Napa Junction. It calls itself the Gateway to the Napa Valley, with the Napa River on its west side and the hills on its east.

The city incorporated on January 1, 1992, and American Canyon High School opened on August 18, 2010.

About 22,000 people live in American Canyon today, making it the second-largest city in Napa County.

The cement plant ruins and old Napa Junction

Long before the city had its name, the hills on its east side were being quarried. The Basalt Rock Company started mining there in 1887, and in 1902 the Standard Portland Cement Company took over the site and began making cement. The plant supplied war materials during World War II and was abandoned in the 1960s. Three tall concrete silos and the ruins of the old works still stand on the site today.

For decades the community here was known as Napa Junction. It incorporated as the City of American Canyon on January 1, 1992. City Hall now sits at 4381 Broadway. For a delivery to a city office, include the department name and the person's full name so the front desk can route it.

The wetlands and the Napa River Bay Trail

The west side of American Canyon runs right up to the Napa River. In 2006 the city restored the low floodplains there to tidal and seasonal wetlands. Today about ten miles of the Napa River Bay Trail wind past mudflats, old salt ponds and marsh, and part of the route is a segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail. Clarke Ranch, a 26-acre park at Eucalyptus Drive and Wetlands Edge Drive, is the gateway to the trail system. Its trailhead parking lot is open from dawn to dusk.

Homes near the wetlands and the newer streets on the west side can be hard to tell apart. A cross street, a house color or a gate code helps our driver find the right door the first time. If no one will be home, tell us where you would like the flowers left.

Gateway to the Napa Valley

American Canyon sits where Highway 29 heads north into wine country, with Vallejo and Solano County to the south and vineyards and the Napa County Airport to the north. Local employers include Owens Corning and Mezzetta, the family company known for its peppers and olives. For a business delivery at a plant or warehouse, send the company name, the receiving hours and a contact, since most have a front office or a loading dock.

For a wedding, party or dinner at a winery, hotel or event barn nearby, give us the event name, the start time and the planner's phone number. Most venues want flowers set before guests arrive, so these go out on our morning route, and our driver will check in with the coordinator before carrying anything inside.

Graduations, celebrations and American Canyon families

American Canyon High School opened on August 18, 2010. For a graduation, order a day or two early and tell us whether the flowers go to the school, the ceremony venue or the family home. For birthdays, anniversaries and new babies, a mixed bouquet or a plant delivered to the house works well. For a new baby, tell us whether the flowers go to the hospital or the home, and include both parents' names. A note about pets, a side gate or the best entrance always helps.

For a funeral or memorial, send the service time, the church or funeral home and a family contact. Formal pieces go out on our early route, and a smaller arrangement can go to the family's home afterward.
