Flowers for Parkmerced and Lake Merced

Parkmerced is a large planned community of garden apartments and towers. Buildings can look alike, so include the full street address, the building number, the unit and the recipient’s phone. Tell us if there is a leasing office or front desk that accepts deliveries.

San Francisco State University borders Parkmerced to the north. For a student or staff member, include their full name, the building or residence hall and a phone number. Campus residence halls often ask the resident to meet the driver at the front desk.

Lake Merced and its walking path are popular for birthdays, picnics and family outings. A park has no reception desk, so flowers for a gathering should go to a home or to a person who can meet the driver at a clear meeting point.

Stonestown Galleria is nearby on 19th Avenue. For a gift to someone working at a shop, enter the business name and the hours they will be there.

For hospital and care deliveries, include the patient’s or resident’s full name and room or unit if you know it. Our hospital and care facility guide lists the details most facilities ask for.

Wind and fog come in from the ocean near the lake. A compact arrangement in a sturdy container holds up well if it has to wait at a door.

For sympathy flowers to a home, give the family name, a phone number and any timing preferences. For a service at a church, hall or funeral home, include the venue, the deceased’s full name, the service time and an onsite contact. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.

A planned garden community beside the lake

Parkmerced was built by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company beginning in 1939. World War II slowed construction, and the first tenants moved into the Font Boulevard buildings in early 1944. The community was completed in the early 1950s.

The architect Leonard Schultze and the landscape architect Thomas Church laid out its unusual pie-shaped blocks and garden courts. With more than 3,200 homes, it is one of the few remaining large privately owned garden apartment complexes in the United States.

Lake Merced, just to the west, gives the neighborhood a quiet edge of water, trails and open space.
