Flowers for Clayton homes and families

Downtown Clayton on Main Street has restaurants and small shops. For a business delivery, enter the business name with the street address and the hours someone will be there.
Diablo View Middle School, Mount Diablo Elementary School and other local schools receive flowers through their main offices. Include the staff member’s full name and the event time.
For a party or event, include the venue, the event name, the start time and an onsite contact.
The nearest hospital is John Muir Medical Center–Concord at 2540 East Street in Concord. Include the patient’s full name and room number if you know it. Our hospital and care facility guide lists the details most hospitals ask for.
For sympathy flowers to a home, give the family name, a phone number and any timing preferences. For a service, include the venue, the deceased’s full name, the service time and an onsite contact. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.

A town named by a coin flip
Joel Henry Clayton and his brothers founded the town in 1857. It was named for him only after a coin flip against co-founder Charles Rhine.
Clayton grew as a small mining and ranching town at the base of Mount Diablo and incorporated on March 18, 1964.
About 11,000 people live in Clayton today.
Endeavor Hall and the vote that made Clayton a city
Endeavor Hall, near Center and Oak Streets, is one of the oldest buildings in town. The Methodist Episcopal Church built it in the 1860s, when circuit-riding preachers connected Clayton with Martinez, Antioch and the coal camp at Somersville. In 1896 the Christian Endeavor Society of the Congregational Church took it over, and after services ended in 1916 volunteer trustees kept it open as the town's meeting room for decades.
On March 3, 1964, the vote on whether Clayton would become Contra Costa County's thirteenth city was held inside the hall. When the polls closed, longtime resident Sigrid Frank rang the brass bell to announce it. The new city council met there until the Clayton Community Library opened in 1995, and the hall was restored in 2001. For a party or meeting at the hall, send us the event name, the start time and someone to call on arrival, and we will bring centerpieces or a welcome arrangement before guests come in.
Downtown Clayton and the Town Center festivals
Clayton grew up during the coal boom in eastern Contra Costa County, and the small downtown still has the feel of an old crossroads town. The Clayton Historical Society, founded in 1974, runs its museum at 6101 Main Street, just steps from the restaurants and shops along Main and Center Streets.
Two weekends fill the Town Center every year: the Clayton Art and Wine Festival in late April, and Oktoberfest in early October, run by the Clayton Business and Community Association. Streets close and parking gets tight, so for a delivery to a downtown business on a festival weekend, give us a phone number and we will call when we are a block away.
Oakhurst, the trailheads and homes near the mountain
Oakhurst Country Club was built in the 1990s on the old Keller Ranch, and many homes now surround the course. Some streets there are gated, and house numbers can be hard to read from the road, so a gate code and a short note about the front door make a real difference.
Mitchell Canyon Road leads to one of the main entrances to Mount Diablo State Park, and homes near it sit right against open space. Summer afternoons in Clayton get hot, so if no one will be home, tell us a shaded spot to leave the flowers or ask us to call a neighbor. For birthdays and anniversaries, a front porch delivery in the morning route keeps blooms fresher than a hot afternoon drop.
Celebrations, memorials and close-knit Clayton
With about 11,000 residents, Clayton is the kind of place where a neighbor will often sign for flowers. If the recipient might be at a school event, a swim meet or the library, add a backup address or a phone number and we will work it out with them. For sympathy flowers going to a family home, tell us if there is a better time to arrive, such as after a service or once relatives have gathered.
Flowers for a retirement or birthday at the Clayton Community Library, City Hall or one of the small offices downtown go to the front desk. Give us the person's full name and department, and add a mobile number if they work outside the building. If the flowers are a surprise, say so in the delivery notes and we will ask for the person at the desk instead of calling ahead.
