Flowers for Oakley homes and families
Most Oakley homes are in newer neighborhoods, and some communities have gates. Include any gate code and the recipient’s phone.
Shops and restaurants along Main Street serve the city. For a business delivery, enter the business name with the street address and the hours someone will be there.
Freedom High School and local elementary and middle schools receive flowers through their main offices. Include the staff member’s full name and the event time.
Homes near the Delta can be on long rural roads. Add short directions if the house is hard to find.
Hospitals near Oakley include Sutter Delta Medical Center at 3901 Lone Tree Way in Antioch and Kaiser Permanente Antioch Medical Center at 4501 Sand Creek Road. Include the patient’s full name and room number if you know it. Our hospital and care facility guide lists the details most hospitals ask for.
For sympathy flowers to a home, give the family name, a phone number and any timing preferences. For a service, include the venue, the deceased’s full name, the service time and an onsite contact. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.

A town named over a card game
Oakley’s first post office opened in 1898. Founder Randolph C. Marsh preferred the name Dewey, but the name Oakley, for the local oak trees, won out in a game of cribbage with his friend Joel D. Wightman.
Five downtown streets, Main, Acme, Ruby, Star and Home, spell out MARSH. Vineyards still cover hundreds of acres around town.
Oakley incorporated on July 1, 1999, the newest city in Contra Costa County. About 43,000 people live here today.
Big Break and the Delta at Oakley's door
The north edge of Oakley is the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and the best place to see it is Big Break Regional Shoreline. In 1928 a levee broke and flooded an asparagus farm between the San Joaquin River and Dutch Slough. The water never left, and the farm turned into a small bay where river water meets the salt water moving up from the bay. The park now covers 1,648 acres. Its visitor center, which opened in October 2012, has a 1,200-square-foot map of the Delta that shows how water moves through the region. There is also a 100-foot fishing pier and a beach where people launch kayaks, canoes and paddleboards.
Plenty of Oakley homes sit near the water and the levee roads, and some addresses look alike on a map. A cross street, a gate code or a note about which driveway to use makes these deliveries quick.
Old Zinfandel vines and Oakley's farm roots
Oakley is still wine country, even with all the new neighborhoods. About 700 acres of vineyards remain around town, and nearly 80 percent of them are planted in Zinfandel. Some of these vines are close to a century old and grow without added irrigation, which is rare in California. Wineries well outside the county buy Oakley grapes for their old-vine bottlings.
For a delivery to a vineyard house or a farm on a rural road, add short directions and the name on the mailbox or gate. If it is harvest time, a phone number matters even more, since people may be out in the rows when our driver arrives. Zinfandel harvest in Oakley usually runs from late summer into early fall.
Civic Center Plaza and a year of hometown events
Most of Oakley's community events happen at Civic Center Plaza. The city runs Concerts in the Park, Movies on Main Street from spring into fall, Oakley Summer Fest in June and the Heart of Oakley Festival in September. In December, the Holiday Tree Lighting fills the plaza, and families come back for Breakfast with Santa at the Oakley Recreation Center. The city also holds Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, and wreaths or red, white and blue arrangements can be delivered for both.
On event nights, parking near the plaza fills quickly. If you are sending flowers to a business or a booth during an event, give us the name and a phone number, and we will deliver early or meet someone nearby.
A growing city and Oakley families
Since 1990, Oakley has more than doubled, from about 18,000 people to more than 43,000. Much of that growth came as new subdivisions replaced orchards and fields, and some newer communities have gates. A unit number, a gate code or the recipient's cell phone keeps our driver on schedule.
For graduations at Freedom High School, or school events at O'Hara Park and Delta Vista Middle Schools, order a day or two ahead and tell us where the flowers should go. For a memorial service, give us the time, the church or funeral home and a family contact. Funeral pieces go out on our morning route, and we can also send a plant or basket to the family's home.
