Maxwell Park is a neighborhood of 1920s homes on gently sloping streets, many with views toward the bay. Include any gate or stair details and the recipient’s phone, and tell us which door is used day to day.
Mills College at Northeastern University is at 5000 MacArthur Boulevard. For a student, include the full name, residence hall and room, and a phone number, since residence halls usually ask the student to meet the driver. For faculty or staff, give the building, department and office.
For a graduation, recital or award on campus, plan ahead. Event spaces often have no one to receive flowers, so the best choice is usually the recipient’s home or a meeting point with a phone number.
Maxwell Park, the small city park the neighborhood is named around, is a favorite place for birthdays and family gatherings. Flowers for a gathering should go to a home or to a person who can meet the driver.
For hospital deliveries, include the patient’s full name and room if you know it. Highland Hospital is at 1411 East 31st Street. Our hospital and care facility guide lists the details most facilities ask for.
For sympathy flowers to a home, give the family name, a phone number and any timing preferences. For a service at a church, hall or funeral home, include the venue, the deceased’s full name, the service time and an onsite contact. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.
Maxwell Park takes its name from its developer, John P. Maxwell. The development was laid out in 1921, and streetcar access and the foothill views were part of its early appeal.
Mills College began in 1852 as the Young Ladies’ Seminary in Benicia and moved to Oakland in 1871. Mills Hall, designed in 1869, still anchors the campus. In 2022, the college joined Northeastern University and became Mills College at Northeastern University.
The campus covers about 135 acres in the Oakland foothills, with historic buildings, gardens and a lake.
