Warm Springs takes its name from Rancho Agua Caliente, meaning warm water. In 1850 the Warm Springs Hotel opened here as a resort for Bay Area visitors, until the 1868 earthquake destroyed it.
Leland Stanford bought the land in 1869 and planted a vineyard run by his brother Josiah. By 1893 the winery was producing 320,000 gallons a year, and it later became Weibel Champagne Vineyards.
Tesla bought the former NUMMI auto plant in 2010, and the Warm Springs/South Fremont BART station opened on March 25, 2017.
