Hayes Street is the neighborhood’s shopping street, running from about Laguna Street to Franklin Street with boutiques, cafés and restaurants. For a business delivery, enter the business name with the street address and the hours someone will be there.
Hayes Valley sits beside some of the city’s best-known stages. The SFJAZZ Center is at 201 Franklin Street, and the War Memorial Opera House and Davies Symphony Hall are nearby on Van Ness Avenue. Venues set their own rules for flowers to performers, so the most reliable choice is often a home or hotel delivery before or after the show.
Many residents live in Victorian flats or newer apartment buildings with a call box. Include the unit, the buzzer name and the recipient’s phone so the driver can reach them.
Patricia’s Green, between Fell and Hayes streets, is a popular meeting place. A park has no reception desk, so flowers for a gathering should go to a home or to a person who can meet the driver.
For hospital deliveries, include the patient’s full name and room if you know it. The CPMC Van Ness Campus is nearby at 1101 Van Ness Avenue. Our hospital and care facility guide lists the details most facilities ask for.
For sympathy flowers to a home, give the family name, a phone number and any timing preferences. For a service at a church, hall or funeral home, include the venue, the deceased’s full name, the service time and an onsite contact. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.
For decades, an elevated section of the Central Freeway ran through Hayes Valley. It was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and after a long community campaign the remaining structure north of Market Street came down.
In 2005, tree-lined Octavia Boulevard opened along the old freeway path. Patricia’s Green, at its northern end, is named for Patricia Walkup, who co-led the campaign to remove the freeway.
The SFJAZZ Center opened in 2013 as the first free-standing building in the West built for jazz performance and education.
