Sending flowers to Chapel of the Chimes
Chapel of the Chimes is at 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611. Its office is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
For a service, tell us the deceased’s full name, the date and start time and the chapel or room, and give us a family or staff contact. Order standing sprays and other formal pieces as early as you can, ideally the day before.
Chapel of the Chimes posts floral rules for its columbarium and mausoleum. Fresh and artificial flowers are welcome in approved vases. Potted plants and wreaths are allowed only around set holidays, from seven days before to seven days after. Glass-front niches cannot have anything attached to them.
Displays on granite or marble fronts may not cover more than one third of the surface, and staff clear faded flowers. The whole facility is cleared around January 10 and July 10 each year, so a small, fresh arrangement is often the best choice for a visit.
If you are visiting a niche or crypt, we can deliver a compact arrangement to you or a family member to bring in. For flowers to the family’s home, give the family name, address and a phone number. Our funeral and sympathy flower guide explains timing for formal pieces.

A Julia Morgan landmark on Piedmont Avenue
Chapel of the Chimes began in 1909 as the California Electric Crematory. In 1928, the architect Julia Morgan redesigned it in a Spanish Gothic style with Moorish touches, filling it with gardens, fountains, mosaics and ornate stonework.
Later expansions were added by the architect Aaron Green, a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright. The building was named an Oakland Designated Landmark in 1999.
Each summer solstice since 1996, the Garden of Memory concert has brought more than 40 musicians to play throughout the columbarium.
