An Irish crossroads that became a city
Dublin is named for the Irish settlers who bought land here in the 1850s. The Murray Schoolhouse dates to 1856, and Green’s Store opened in 1860.
Old St. Raymond’s Church, built in 1859, is the oldest surviving Catholic church in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
Dublin incorporated on February 1, 1982, and has grown quickly since. About 72,600 people live here today.
Old St. Raymond's and Dublin Heritage Center
The white wooden church on Donlon Way is the heart of Dublin's history. Irish settlers from County Roscommon, the Murray and Fallon families, built Old St. Raymond's in 1859, and it was dedicated in 1860. Michael Murray and Jeremiah Fallon donated the land. Tom Donlon, one of the builders, died in a fall during construction and became the first person buried in the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery behind the church. The church held its first wedding in 1865 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
The City of Dublin bought the church in 1993 and now rents it out for community and private events, alongside the Murray Schoolhouse and the other buildings at the Dublin Heritage Center. For an event there, send us the building name, the start time and the planner's phone number. For flowers at the pioneer cemetery, tell us the family name and we will coordinate with whoever is meeting us.
St. Patrick's Day, Dublin style
A city named for its Irish founders goes all out every March. The weekend usually starts with the Green and White Gala, hosted with guests from Dublin's sister city of Bray, Ireland, then moves to a firefighters' pancake breakfast, the Dublin Lions Club parade, the Shamrock 5K and a two-day festival at the Civic Center with Irish music, dancing and hundreds of vendor booths.
It is a busy weekend on Dublin's roads, and a popular one for green and white arrangements, shamrock plants and party centerpieces. If you are sending flowers to a gala table or a festival booth, give us the venue, the booth or table name and someone to call, and order a day or two ahead.
From Dublin Ranch to Dublin Boulevard
Dublin was a quiet crossroads for most of its history and has grown fast since it incorporated in 1982. Much of that growth is in east Dublin, around Dublin Ranch and the neighborhoods off Tassajara and Fallon Roads, where newer homes, townhomes and apartment buildings share long blocks with similar-looking entrances. A building letter, a unit number and the recipient's cell phone keep these deliveries on schedule.
Along Dublin Boulevard you will find offices, medical buildings and shopping centers, plus Camp Parks, the Army Reserve training area on the city's north side. For a delivery to a base office or another secured site, send the full name, the unit or office, and a contact who can meet our driver at the gate.
Schools, parks and celebrations
For graduations at Dublin High School and the city's elementary and middle schools, order a day or two early and tell us whether the flowers go to the school office or to a family home. Emerald Glen Park and the Shannon Community Center are popular spots for birthday parties, showers and reunions. For a park event, add the picnic area or room name and a phone number, and we will find the group.
For a funeral Mass or memorial with the St. Raymond parish community, or a service at a funeral home in the Tri-Valley, give us the service time and location. Sympathy pieces go out on our early route so they are set up before the family arrives, and we can send a smaller arrangement to the family home the same day.
