Holy Cross Service, Flower Rules & Visit Guide

Open a guide for the service, the cemetery’s current flower rules, an outdoor grave visit or delivery routing.

A full casket spray is normally chosen by the closest family. Standing sprays, wreaths, crosses or hearts can frame a service, while a sitting spray or basket works well near the altar or at a Vigil or Rosary. For the church portion of the funeral, tell us the parish and start time; for the committal, include Holy Cross and the deceased’s full name.

Grave decorations are limited to flowers in cemetery flower vases, with no more than two vases per plot; artificial flowers are discouraged. Crypt and niche flowers must use the single vase provided. Water is not allowed in All Saints Mausoleum, where colorfast artificial flowers are encouraged to protect the marble. The rules do not authorize glass containers, so use the cemetery’s provided vase and contact the cemetery office before bringing any other container. Decorations are removed on the cemetery’s section schedule beginning at 8:00 a.m.; check the current removal calendar before a visit.

All Souls’ Day on November 2, Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and family anniversaries are common times to bring flowers. For exposed graves, compact low arrangements with sturdy chrysanthemums, carnations or roses generally handle wind better than tall designs. Holy Cross permits potted plants up to 12 inches high around Christmas and Easter for the stated holiday period, and during the week of several other holidays; use the monument foundation and follow the posted cleanup schedule.

Holy Cross includes the All Saints Mausoleum, Holy Cross Mausoleum and graves across a large property. Give us the deceased’s name and service time, plus the funeral home or the section, plot, crypt or niche when known. Cemetery management directs funerals on arrival, and the funeral director’s representative places service flowers at the flower walls or another designated area before the committal.

Serving Families at Holy Cross, Open Since 1887

Holy Cross began when Archbishop Patrick W. Riordan purchased 300 acres of the Buri Buri rancho in 1886 as San Francisco burial space grew scarce. The cemetery opened the following year. Today its broad Colma grounds include graves, crypts, niches, the All Saints Mausoleum and Holy Cross Mausoleum. BloomFresh approaches every delivery here as a timed part of a family’s service or remembrance, with the destination details checked before the driver leaves.

Yes. Our first route is planned for time-sensitive funeral work, including flowers needed for an 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. church or chapel service before the Colma committal. Add the service venue and start time when ordering.

For a service, provide the deceased’s full name, the funeral home and the scheduled time. For a personal grave or mausoleum delivery, include the section and plot, crypt or niche number whenever possible.

Casket sprays, standing sprays, wreaths, crosses, hearts, sitting sprays and service baskets are all familiar choices. The closest family usually selects the casket flowers, while relatives and friends often send standing or basket arrangements.

Yes. Tell us the visit date and the grave location. We will design for outdoor placement and follow Holy Cross rules: flowers belong in the cemetery vases, with a maximum of two vases per plot.

Use only the one vase provided for a crypt or niche. Water is not allowed inside All Saints Mausoleum, and the cemetery encourages colorfast artificial flowers there so the marble is not stained.

Families who want to keep a piece should collect it immediately after the committal. Holy Cross states that arrangements at its flower walls are removed before 9:00 a.m. throughout the week.

Careful Holy Cross delivery, timed for the service and directed to the right resting place.
